ISLAMABAD – Former Air Chief Air Marshal Asghar Khan has passed away at CMHin Rawalpindi on Friday morning after protracted illness. He was ninety-six.

According to his family sources, Namaz-e-Janaza would be offered at NawanShehr in Abbottabad on Saturday (January ).

Retired Air Marshal Asghar Khan was a veteran politician, aviationhistorian and first native commander in chief of Pakistan Air Force.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Husain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasihave expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Air Marshal retiredAsghar Khan.

Political leadership has paid glowing tributes to Asghar Khan for hisservices to the Nation.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman also paid tribute toAsghar Khan and said that he played a key role in making PAF a modern AirForce.

On 23rd March 2017, the esteemed PAF Academy Risalpur was named after AirMarshal Asghar Khan, who was the first Muslim Commander-in-Chief ofPakistan Air Force. To celebrate this historic event in a befitting manner,a grand ceremony was held at the PAF Academy, Risalpur. Air Marshal AsgharKhan was the chief guest on the occasion. Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman,Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, was also present at theceremony. Former air chiefs, war veterans and a large number of retired andserving senior officers attended the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has approved the StateFuneral for Air Marshal ( retired ) Asghar Khan in recognition of hisservices to the nation and great contribution in building the Pakistan AirForce into one of the best air forces in the world.”
