ISLAMABAD: Secretary Foreign Affairs Tehmina Janjua and Secretary InteriorMajor(r) Azam Suleman Khan on Wednesday jointly briefed the diplomaticcorps here on the recent counter terrorism efforts made by Pakistan, underthe National Action Plan (NAP).
According to a Foreign Office press release, the Secretary Interior gave anoverview of Pakistan’s contribution to the fight against terrorism.
He noted that the National Security Committee at its meeting held onJanuary 1 reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the fight against terrorismand extremism.
The NSC, he said, also decided to expedite the implementation of theNational Action Plan on which there was a complete national consensus.
The diplomats were informed that the recent actions were mainly focusedagainst all the proscribed organizations and individuals, in particular theimplementation of the targeted financial sanctions against them.
In that regard, he briefed them on the actions to freeze the assets of suchentities and individuals.
The Secretary Interior also apprised the diplomats about the measures tostrengthen Pakistan’s administrative and legal framework for counteringterrorism and financing of terrorism, in accordance with its internationalobligations.
It was underscored that the recent counter terrorism actions were concrete,verifiable and irreversible. The actions would continue until terrorism andextremism were eliminated from the country.
