Pakistani Actress Mehwish Hayat unveils her unfulfilled desire

ISLAMABAD – Mehwish Hayat was awarded the Pakistan Icon Plaque inrecognition of her film work over the past few years at the re-launch eventof Filmfare’s Middle East edition in Dubai.

Elated Mehwish Hayat took to Instagram where she shared pictures of heralong with the news.

“I was honoured to be awarded the Pakistan Icon Plaque in recognition of myfilm work over the past few years. I have always said that I do not judgemy success by awards, but this one was different because it wasinternational recognition for everything that we have achieved in ourindustry.

To share the platform with members of our fraternity from across the borderand to be considered on equal standing with them was very rewarding. It wasacknowledgement of how far we have come in such a short time. We no longerhave to live in anybody s shadow.

We are all very naive if we think that films and artists can overcome 70years of history and deep politics. True collaboration is much more thancasting actors from across the border in each others films. Let them showour drama serials and films first”, Hayat wrote on her Insatgram account.

The Punjab Nahi Jaungi actress also wished that Indians would be able tosee Pakistani movies as freely as their Pakistani counterparts watch Indiancontent.

“I would love for Indian friends to come visit us in my homeland and seethe love people have for them. I think too much emphasis has been put onthe role for artistes and films in building bridges between our twonations. No matter what the people may want, the past year’s events haveshown that 70 years of history and deep political issues will always get inthe way.

This is much more than casting actors from across the border in each othersfilms. I long for the day when people in India can freely see my movies intheir country, just as Indian films are played in my country,” said Mehwishin ceremony.
