ISLAMABAD – *Shahid Afridi condemned recent clampdown by Indian forces oncivilians in occupied Kashmir, urging the United Nations to intervene tostop the bloodshed.*
This statement didn’t go down well with Indian media which went into afrenzy and started criticising the flambouyant all-rounder for raisingvoice for the people of Occupied Kashmir.
Indian cricketer Gautham Ghambir criticized the former Pakistani captain onTwitter saying Afridi is “celebrating a dismissal off a no- ball!!!”
It was not long before Afridi’s fans rallied behind him and launched atit-for-tat response against the Indian batsman.
One of the prominent among them was Asif Ghafooor, Director General ofInter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), who used his personal Twitteraccount to respond to criticism against Afridi.
Ghafoor shared a video of a past match in which Aridi led Pakistan tovictory against India by hitting two consecutive sixes and a picture inwhich Afiridi is seen engaged in on-filed altercation with Gotham Ghambir.
“Shahid Afrid is our national pride and voice,” Asif Ghafoor said in one ofhis tweets.
Shahid Afridi, who retweeted Asif Ghafoor’s twitter post, also shared hispicture with Indian fans holding and wrote: “We respect all. And this is anexample as sportsman. But when it comes to human rights we expect the samefor our innocent Kashmiris.”
