ISLAMABAD – A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) headed by ChiefJustice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday has disposed of a casepertaining to Pakistan Railways land.
During the hearing, the bench barred Pakistan Railways from selling itsland and said that the land which is not required for Railways operationcan be leased out for a period of five years.
The top judge said that the interim order regarding Royal Palm Golf andCountry Club will be effective.
CJP had directed to continue all the matters of the club as per scheduleand also ruled that the land owned by Pakistan Railways will not be leasedor used for constructing housing societies.
Pakistan Railways had sealed Royal Palm Golf and Country Club in a bid torecover Rs2.16 billion outstanding dues.The department had also terminated lease contract that was signed in 2001with Mainland Husnain Pakistan Limited (MHPL).
