KABUL – The Afghan foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani met with theAmbassador of Pakistan in Kabul to discuss the issues of bilateralinterest, including the recent developments in Jalalabad city whichresulted into the closure of the Pakistani consulate, Khaama Press hasreported.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Mr. Rabbani congratulated thePakistani Ambassador Zahid Nasrullah Khan for the successful conclusion ofthe parliamentary elections in Pakistan.
Rabbani further added that Islamabad’s support from an Afghan-led peaceprocess could have positive impact on the bilateral relations between thetwo countries.
In his turn, the Pakistani Ambassador Zahid Nasrullah Khan said thegovernment of Pakistan supports the Afghan government’s stance regardingthe Moscow summit.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Rabbani also discussedthe issues surrounding the closure of the Pakistani consulate in Jalalabadcity and emphasized on immediate steps to resolve the issue.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also added that the two sides alsodiscussed bilateral political and economic relations, Afghan peace process,regional cooperation and the issues of Afghan refugees.
Pakistan on Saturday announced the country’s consulate in Jalalabad cityhas been closed, accusing the Nangarhar governor for interfering in theworks of the consulate.
