In a first, flood warning issued for major cities in Punjab

*ISLAMABAD – Following heavy monsoon rains in Punjab, KP and Azad Kashmir,authorities have warned about the risk of urban flooding in major cities inPunjab over the next 48 hours.*

“Due to heavy rainfall there is a risk of land sliding in Kashmir,” it saidin an alert.

Lahore has received 243 mm rainfall since Tuesday morning. The heavy raininundated the city’s low-lying areas and wreaked havoc on itsinfrastructure, leaving at least six people dead.

The Met Office has warned of more downpours across Punjab.

Thunderstorms and heavy falls are expected over Multan and upper catchmentsof all the major rivers, Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast.

“One or two very heavy falls are expected over Rawalpindi, Lahore,Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Sahiwal. People are advised to takecare while travelling,” the alert said.

It further warned that flooding is expected in hill torrents of DG KhanDivision from Wednesday.

“It is therefore requested that all concerned may be informed to takenecessary measures in low-lying and vulnerable areas.”
