NEW DELHI – Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved purchase ofStealth warships worth $1 billion for Navy.
MoD on Saturday approved military procurement worth Rs 3,000 crore.
The list includes Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles for the Navy’s twostealth frigates and armoured recovery vehicles for the Army’s Arjun mainbattle tanks, ministry officials said.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister NirmalaSitharaman cleared the proposals for the procurement.
“The DAC chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accorded approvalfor acquisition of defence equipment worth about Rs 3,000 crore,” said anofficial.
India is procuring two stealth frigates at a cost of $1 billion and boththe ships for the Indian Navy will be equipped with indigenously developedBrahMos missiles.
