OIC Makkah Summit final declaration comes as a blow to India

MAKKAH – The 14th session of the OIC Summit in Makkah has reiterated theconference’s principled support for the legitimate right toself-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance withthe United Nations (UN) resolutions, the Radio Pakistan reported.

Referring to the UN Kashmir report of 2018, the Final Communique of theConference called for the expedited establishment of a UN Commission ofInquiry to investigate the grave human rights violations and urged India toallow the Commission and other international organizations access to IndianOccupied Kashmir (IoK).

The Conference endorsed resolutions adopted by the OIC Ministerial meetings.

It may be recalled that the OIC Council of Ministers had adopted inFebruary this year Pakistan’s resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir as well anew resolution on the maintenance of peace and stability in South Asia.

The Conference called for the adoption of a comprehensive strategy tocombat Islamophobia, building on proposals made by Pakistan in the OICMinisterial Executive Committee meeting in March 2019.

The Conference commended Pakistan for its generosity and hospitality forhosting Afghan Refugees in the past 40 years.

Signifying OIC’s continued attention and focus on the Kashmir issue, theConference approved Yousef Aldobeay of Saudi Arabia as OIC’s special envoyfor Jammu and Kashmir.

The Conference welcomed the offer of Pakistan to host the 48th session ofthe Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad in 2021.

Prime Minister Imran Khan represented Pakistan at the Makkah Summit andarticulated Pakistan’s views on the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir,Palestine, Islamophobia and the need for science, technology and innovationfor Muslim countries.
