PIA to add five new Airplanes to its fleet

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has invited bids for fivenarrow-body aircraft to add to its fleet. PIA plans to obtain theseaircraft for up to 6 years on dry lease.

According to the published advertisement and detailed tender documentsavailable on PIA website, the last date of bidding is July 3, 2018.

PIA will add these aircraft to its fleet no later than December 2018. Theaircraft sitting capacity will be more than 150 with both business andeconomy class onboard passengers.

PIA wishes to lease new narrow-body aircraft and bidding documents saysthat first priority will be given to new aircraft or ones that are lessthan five years old.——————————

“In case PIA is not able to find newer aircraft on economically viableprice, then older aircraft meeting age requirement of National AviationPolicy will be considered,” bidding documents state.

Talking with ProPakistani, PIA spokesperson Mashood Tajwar told that thisbidding process consists of two phases. During the first one, technicalevaluations will be completed and secondly, if the bidder fulfills theserequirements then financial bidding envelope will be considered.

“PIA demands five narrow-body aircraft but will see how many aircraft PIAcan get during the bidding process. It depends on how many bids aresubmitted and the lease demanded,” Tajwar added.

A source told ProPakistani that PIA will use these aircraft for domesticand low capacity international routes. PIA is willing to lease aircraftfrom the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 family. High-quality interior is also arequirement.

This bidding document is divided into four sections:

The first section gives interested parties an overview of the process andexplains in detail as to how they should submit their bids and how theirbids will be evaluated by PIA.

The second section contains general terms which shall form the basis of thelease agreement between PIA and the successful bidder.

The third section covers the details of PIA’s requirement in terms of theaircraft lease.

The fourth section provides the interested bidders with an overview ofPIA’s evaluation process to maintain complete transparency and criteria todetermine the best suited offer.

The annexure contained thereafter are the standardized formats on which PIAexpects to receive the actual offers from the interested bidders.

Bidders are required to provide the technical details such as aircraftidentification, airframe status, airframe maintenance program (A,B and Cchecks), principal operating weights, fuel data, airworthiness directivesstatus, interior configuration, In-Flight Entertainment (IFE), landinggears, installed engines, APU, wheels and brakes.

PIA staff will physically inspect the aircraft and reconfirm above givendetails during the inspection. If the aircraft pass in physical inspection,they will be cleared for lease.
