ISLAMABAD – Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari Thursday said ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) could be used to counter unilaterallyimposed US sanctions on any of the Golden Ring Economic Forum (GREF)countries.
She explained the CPEC should be considered as community of power and notbe conceived just as transactional relations.
She was addressing a seminar on Gold Ring Economic-Bloc consisting ofRussia, China, Pakistan, and Iran jointly organized by GREF and PakistanInstitute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) here, says a statement issuedhere.
She said CPEC is a huge opportunity which can and should be exploited andused for the economic betterment of the people of these Golden RingCountries and it can also help bring harmony, peace and stability in thesecountries.
Senator Sherry Rehman explained that Indo-American dominance was gettingchallenged by the CPEC. She further emphasized that skills of the labourneeds to be upscale to use this opportunity as it was best for CPEC project.
President GREF Hasnain Mirza and Chairman GREF Maj. General (RETD) AneesBajwa explained the objectives of new economic bloc.
They said these countries are blessed with natural and human resources,which yet are not benefiting as much economically as they can.
These countries dominate the major land mass of Eastern Europe, Asia andMiddle East. Yet they are standing in the total world economy is 17%.
The seminar had two sessions, first session was chaired by former SpeakerNational Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and second session was chaired by ViceChairman GREF, Lt Gen. (retd) Sikandar Afzal.
In two sessions Pakistan’s regional relations and national economicsecurity within the context of CPEC and GREF were discussed.
Brig Samson Simon Sharaf presented his scholarly article on “The End of GeoStrategy”. Member GREF BOD ALmas Hyder, Chief Economist Planning CommissionZaffar ul Hassan, and Chief Coordinator Planning Commission Dr Mohsin alsopresented their papers on the subject.
