Dozens injured as powerful typhoon hits Japan

In Japan, dozens of people were injured and more than one thousand flights cancelled when a powerful typhoon made a landfall in the country on Sunday evening.

The typhoon brought fierce winds and torrential rain to areas already battered by a string of recent extreme weather.

It also disrupted transport, including bullet train services.

Weather officials have warned of potential flooding and landslides and non-compulsory evacuation advisories have been issued to around four million residents.

According to reports, power supply to more than seven hundred fifty thousand households has been disrupted.
