Indian EAM Sushma Swaraj veiled attack on Pakistan in OIC meeting in UAE

DUBAI – India’s Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Fridayaddressed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in AbuDhabi where she condemned “states who provide shelter and funding toterrorists” in what some consider to be an attack on Pakistan.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan earlier announced its intention toboycott the meeting after OIC failed to rescind the invitation extended toSwaraj. Tensions between the two countries have been at an all-time highafter the February 14 attack on an Indian paramilitary envoy in Pulwama.

“If we want to save humanity, we must tell the states who provide shelterand funding to terrorists, to dismantle the infrastructure of the terroristcamps and stop providing funding shelter and funding to the terrororganisation based in that country,” she said.

She added: “Terrorism is destroying lives, destabilising regions andputting the world at great peril. Terror reach is growing and the toll itis taking is increasing.”

Swaraj said that terrorism and extremism are given different names andlabels but they can always be pinned down to a distortion of religion.“None of the 99 names of Allah means violence, Islam preaches peace. Thismenace cannot be stopped only through diplomatic and military means, wehave to work within our communities,” she added.
