ISLAMABAD – Advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood hassaid that Pakistan aims to expand its export portfolio with China wellbeyond its traditional products.
Speaking to *China Economic Net*, during the Second China InternationalImport Expo (CIIE), Dawood said, “Chinese government has given usopportunity that we can export more than just textile, leather andagricultural products, we are now going to get into chemicals andengineering, and see it a very good opportunity for partnering more andmore with Chinese companies”.
The advisor further said, “It will be a multi facet agreement and we lookforward very much to its implementation”. He was hopeful that Pakistan’sexports to China would increase significantly after the implementation ofthe new FTA.
“I look forward to that type of growth. We have tremendous interest inexpanding our export to China, we had a few people come to the first Expo, the second one will have more. And I can assure you at the third and thefourth, there will be much more,” he said.
The advisor admitted that Pakistani companies need to work on improvingtheir marketing, as no effort is done on international marketing. “Pakistanstill [has] a long way to go to improve its image, to do better marketing. We’re not very good at international marketing and this stems from the factthat in domestic marketing, demand has always been greater than supply. Sothe emphasis on marketing is less. Overseas is the other way around.Pakistan has to market, and we haven’t learn it yet, but we will,” he said.
