ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has said broad-based and enduringpartnership between Pakistan and the United States is important for peace,prosperity and development in the region.
He was talking to US Senator Lindsey Graham, who called on him in Islamabadon Monday.
The Prime Minister urged Senator Graham to continue to play his role in thetransformation of the relationship, particularly through deepening andintensifying bilateral economic cooperation.
While emphasizing the value of peace and stability in Afghanistan forPakistan’s development, Imran Khan said that Pakistan would continue toplay its facilitating role in the Afghan peace and reconciliation process.
He apprised Senator Graham of the continuing Indian atrocities in IndianOccupied Kashmir. He also drew Senator’s attention towards the IndianGovernment’s discriminatory policies against minorities. He urged forcontinued U.S focus to prevent further deterioration of peace and stabilityin the region.
Senator Graham thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s consistent supportin the Afghan peace process. He reiterated his desire for a broaderbilateral relationship with particular focus on economic cooperation,enhanced market access and increased investments. He appreciated Pakistan’sachievements in mainstreaming the tribal areas through development work. Healso commended Pakistan on border fencing initiative.
Senator Graham is Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and senior memberof the Armed Services, Appropriations and Budget Committees of the USSenate.
This is his second visit to Pakistan this year.
