ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has said providing inexpensive housesequipped with the latest facilities to the poor people especially the slumdwellers of cities is the foremost priority of the government.
He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, which reviewed theprogress made so far to use unutilized land and properties owned by federalgovernment.
The Prime Minister said the construction of multi-storey buildings atKatchi Abadies will help address the issue of providing shelter to the poorand disadvantaged segments of the society.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister was informed that the land andproperties identified by different ministries and department are located atprime locations of cities including Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore and theseare estimated to be worth billions of rupees.
The meeting was informed that out of thirty two properties, twenty sevenare fully available whilst the process has been started to recover theremaining properties from illegal occupation.
The Prime Minister was also informed that expatriate Pakistanis andinvestors have shown great interest in these precious properties at theDubai Expo.
Imran Khan was further informed that the schedule of the auction of theseproperties will be framed after completing all the processes so that theadvertisement campaign could be started both at home and abroad in thefirst week of next month.
Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed satisfaction over the progress made sofar to bring to use the unutilized land.
He said it is an important component of the government’s policy to fullyutilize these properties and use the money earned from them for the welfareof the people and building of basic facilities including hospitals andschools.
The Prime Minister directed that details of all the identified land shouldbe shared with Naya Pakistan Housing Authority so that the appropriate landcould be used for the construction of houses for low income groups.
The Prime Minister also directed the ministries to propose necessarylegislation that could pave the way for utilization of properties owned bythem for the welfare of the masses. He said this process should becompleted in a week time and furnished before the cabinet.
The Prime Minister also directed that in cooperation with the relevantprovincial governments, all the hurdles relating to incomplete documents ofproperties or those illegally occupied should be addressed at the earliest.
The Chairman of Naya Pakistan Housing Authority briefed the Prime Ministerabout the progress made so far to execution housing project for low incomegroups.
