ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the anti-corruption appcalled ‘Report Corruption’ in Islamabad today (Monday), in connection withInternational Anti-Corruption Day.
Addressing the ceremony, he hailed it as a major step in making the countrycorruption free. He expressed hope that this app will help transformingPakistan into a modern and transparent nation.
The Prime Minister said the anti-corruption establishment Punjab has beensuccessful in recovering billions of rupees from corrupt elements whichneed to be widely publicized. He said the recovered money will be spent onthe uplift and betterment of people. Imran Khan urged the Punjab governmentto widely disseminate information about the money recovered from corruptionto people.
The Prime Minister regretted that people are unaware about the vital linkbetween corruption and their miseries.
Referring to the example of China, the Prime Minister said hundreds ofpeople have been put in jails on graft charges including ministers in orderto eradicate corruption from their country. He said in Lebanon, Chile, Iraqand other countries people are protesting on roads against the corruptionof their rulers. He said in this day and age it is not easy to hidecorruption.
Imran Khan said today corrupt countries are poor and transparent nationsare rich. He referred to the example of Congo, Nigeria and other Africancountries which are rich in natural resources but their people are facingextreme level of poverty due to rampant corruption in their societies.Switzerland, on the other hand, lacks natural resources but is veryprosperous and rich.
The Prime Minister said a modern and prosperous society gives greatemphasis on anti-corruption. He said when corruption in any societyincreases, the money that was to be spent on health, education and othernecessities of people transfers to the pockets of corrupt people. As thosecorrupt people are afraid of discovery of their ill-gotten wealth, theytransfer it abroad.
Terming overseas Pakistanis as precious asset of Pakistan, he said they caninvest heavily in the country if they are sure of no corruption.
The Prime Minister called corrupt person as enemy of the people.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar saidgovernment is committed to eradicate menace of corruption from the province.
He said launch of this new “App” is beginning of a new era. He said thisApp will enable the complainant to view the progress on his complain.
The Chief Minister said government of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf will fullits agenda of justice and accountability.
He said Anti-Corruption Establishment of Punjab has land worth of 132billion rupees and about 4.75 billion rupees were deposited in nationalexchequer.
Usman Buzdar also urged the people to play their due role to eradicate thecorruption.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability Shehzad Akbar in hisremarks said we will digitalize Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment on thedirection of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
He said launching of the App is a step forward to automate the system. Hesaid this App will be practical demonstration of Whistle Blower concept.
The Special Assistant expressed hope that Anti-Corruption department willdouble its recovery after the launch of this App.
