PM Imran Khan’s message for the Punjab bureaucracy and police officers

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister UsmanBuzdar discussed important matters during a meeting in Lahore on Saturday.

The prime minister also held meetings with Punjab Chief Secretary Maj(retd) Azam Suleman and IGP Punjab Shoaib Dastgir. He congratulated thenewly appointed high-ranking officers.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan, SAPMon Accountability Shahzad Akbar and Zulfi Bukhari were also present.

Addressing the provincial bureaucracy and senior police officers, PrimeMinister Imran Khan said that examples of country’s governance, bureaucracyand policies were given in the 60s. “The country is passing through adifficult phase today and economic stability is vital for it. The economyis strengthening and I congratulate my economic team,” he said.

The prime minister said that appointments have been made on merit in thebureaucracy and against other designations. “We have freed the officersfrom every kind of political pressure during our tenure. You will have todo work on merit. You are not bound to do unfair work of any politicalpersonality,” he said.

Imran Khan said that competent bureaucracy has an important role in theprogress of the country. “There is need to improve law and order andgovernance system for economic progress,” he said.

He said that they will have to change the old mindset in the New Pakistanas the old system cannot work today. “Your top duty is to serve the masses.We will protect the service tenure of the officers and try to improve thelife of the common man,” he said.

The prime minister urged the officers to defend the poor against thepowerful. “You have legal authority, but this power should only be used toserve the masses and improve their lives,” he said.
