PM Imran Khan approved establishment of construction and infrastructure Board for the first time in history of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the establishment ofConstruction and Infrastructure Board to provide enabling requirement tothe construction industry.

He was talking to a delegation of Construction Association of Pakistanheaded by Engineer Arshad Dad Khan in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister said that the board would be instrumental in addressingthe issues being faced by constructors.

The Prime Minister also directed Secretary Planning to formulate aconstruction development policy for facilitating all stakeholders includingcontractors, clients and consultants.

He observed that the government is focusing on employing technology andmaking the processes digital to reduce human interface, eliminatecorruption and ensure transparency in all business activities.

The delegation appreciated the vision of the Prime Minister in approvingthe construction sector as ‘industry’ and the steps being taken bygovernment towards meeting the existing demand for low-cost housing in thecountry.

It also proposed various steps to address issues, being faced byconstrucuters.

These issues include establishment of Construction and InfrastructureBoard, setting up of Office of Procurement Ombudsman, capacity building oflocal construction industry, revisiting tax regime, review of laws andaudit procedures and lack of standardization.
