ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s ruling party PTI faces a bigthreat from the ElectionCommission of Pakistan (ECP).
ECP has accepted opposition’s plea that it hear the PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) foreign funding case on a daily basis.
The ECP announced that hearings of the case will be held every day,starting November 24. The chief election commissioner (CEC) retired JusticeSardar Mohammad has also directed the scrutiny committee to wrap up thecase quickly, local media reported.
On Wednesday, the opposition submitted a letter to the CEC asking for adaily hearing of the case. The letter was signed by all the members ofthe Rehbar Committee. The funding case was filed in November 2014 by PTI’sfounding member Akbar S. Babar. He accused the party of corruption andillegal funding.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information andBroadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan strongly condemned the opposition’s moveand said that the Rehbar Committee themselves requires guidance. “Unlikeothers, we are not the ones to find an escape route from accountability,”Awan tweeted.
