CPEC: PM Imran Khan to perform ground breaking ceremony of mega Special Economic Zone creating over 250,000 new jobs

ISLAMABAD – The ground breaking ceremony of first state-of-the-art AllamaIqbal Industrial City special economic zone which is being developed underChina-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project to be held on January 03.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to perform the ground breaking ceremonyof this mega prioritized project of special economic zone of FaisalabadIndustrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) under CPEC.

Appreciating the economic policies of Prime Minister, FIEDMC Chairman MianKashif Ashfaq on Saturday said that the incumbent government focused on theeconomic growth in the country” says a press release.

“With trade and investment being an important pillar of the presentgovernment’s foreign policy, there is a positive sentiment among theinternational community towards the country’s economy, which needs to betapped,” he added.

Highlighting the development projects of FIEDMC, he said that around Rs 357billion foreign and local investment will be injected into variousprojects, which clearly indicates that investors have reposed completeconfidence in the present regime.

He said that Allama Iqbal Industrial City has been planned over an area of4000 acres, which is strategically located on Motorway M-4 near SahianwalaInterchange, Faisalabad. He said that main boulevard, entrance gate andboundary wall will be completed within six months.

According to the plan, new industrial units of different nature would beconstructed in the Allama Iqbal Industrial City. Scattered industrial unitsare already operating in various congested localities of the city whichwould also be shifted to this new industrial estate after its completion,”he added.

Mian Kashif said vary development projects under FIEDMC is likely to create250, 000 jobs and in order to prepare Pakistani youth to find employmentopportunities, FIEDMC is planning to conduct short-term courses to trainthe aspirants in the respective fields, for which they align their futurecourses accordingly.”Unemployment is one of the major challenges which thePakistani government is facing.

According to recent statistics of the World Bank, about 6 percentPakistanis are unemployed and to solve this issue, Pakistan needs to createmore jobs in the future,” adding he said that the trained and skilledlabour and engineers will not only get good jobs in the SEZs, but alsoenable Chinese and local companies to find skilled professionals from localareas rather than hiring them from other parts of the country.

He said Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar and Punjab Minister forIndustries Mian Muhammad Aslam Iqbal have already directed the alldepartments to help expedite its timely completion by fully ensuringprovision of basic infrastructure.

He said divisional commissioner Faisalabad Ishrat Ali has also set upspecial monitoring cell at his office to ensure strict compliance of PM andCM directives and performance of provincial departments for provisionsinfrastructure on time.
