ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pakistan will continueto implement international conventions for further improving its economicsituation.
PM Imran Khan chaired a high-level meeting to review the implementation ofinternational conventions related to the Generalized Scheme ofPreferences-Plus (GSP+).
The session was attended by Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Khalid JawedKhan, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari, Commerce Advisor AbdulRazak Dawood, Adviser on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Bukhari, Advisor onClimate Change Malik Amin Aslam.

The premier was briefed over the GSP Plus status and trade ties with theEuropean Union (EU) countries. They also exchanged views on steps taken bythe federal government for socio-economic development and good governance.
PM Khan was apprised about the implementation of decisions for humanrights, especially for children and women.
The participants of the session also reviewed the federal government’sBillion Tree Tsunami project besides holding discussions on the Ehsaasprogramme, inauguration of Kartarpur Corridor and socio-economicdevelopment of tribal districts merged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
He was told that the National Child Labour Survey was initiated to copewith the challenges to protect children’s rights and violence. Theconcerned authorities were continuing strict implementation of regulationspertaining to child labour.
Separate briefings were also given to the premier regarding the preparationof a two-year review plan for the GSP+ status and improvement of Pakistan’srank in Transparency International (TI) corruption index.
PM Imran Khan expressed satisfaction over the progress of implementation ofthe National Action Plan (NAP) on Human Rights and other decisions relatedto economic affairs.
He praised EU’s decision to extend GSP Plus status to Pakistan till 2022.
PM Khan said that the European Union (EU) played an important role instabilising exports of Pakistan. He added that the 27 conventions of theUnited Nations (UN) were in accordance to the constitutionalresponsibilities of the government and it also met the public agenda of theruling political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
“The government will continue implementation of the conventions for theeconomic betterment of the nation,” he vowed. The government will alsoincrease its partnership with EU states, he added.
“The federal government will not make any compromise on child labour andmisconduct with children. We will also continue our efforts to help givingdue rights to the weak segments of society.”
