Afghan Taliban and Washington sign historic Afghanistan peace deal in Doha today

ISLAMABAD – The Taliban and Washington are ready to sign the deal in Dohaon Saturday (today). Both are likely to agree to the withdrawal ofthousands of US troops after two years of secured negotiations.

Diplomats from Afghanistan, the US India, Pakistan, and other UN memberstates have begun gathering along with Taliban representatives todaymorning at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha. The peace deal is expected to besigned at the same hotel.

According to the international news agency, US Secretary of State MikePompeo will witness the deal event in Doha.

In addition to this, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper is likely to present ajoint declaration with the government of Afghanistan in Kabul.

The deal comes after Washington had announced a “reduction in violence”(RIV) deal, which has largely held.

Earlier on Friday, US President Donald Trump emphasized Afghans to seizethe opportunity for peace and “a new future”.

Donald Trump said in a statement, “Nearly 19 years ago, American servicemembers went to Afghanistan to root out the terrorists responsible for the9/11 attacks. In that time, we have made great progress in Afghanistan, butat great cost to our brave service members, to the American taxpayers, andthe people of Afghanistan.

“When I ran for office, I promised the American people I would begin tobring our troops home, and seek to end this war. We are making substantialprogress on that promise,”
