ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army Aviation attack helicopters operating from GurhaSalim Airbase have been conducting intensive day-and-night trainingexercises over Noor Pur Baghan village in Jhelum district for the pastseveral days, residents and local sources confirmed on Thursday.
The nonstop rotor sound and low-altitude manoeuvres have disrupted normallife in the village, with residents reporting sleepless nights andheightened anxiety among children and the elderly due to the persistentnoise and vibrations.
Noor Pur Baghan lies less than 60 kilometres from the Line of Control andthe international border with India, placing the exercise area within astrategically sensitive corridor that has witnessed periodic militaryactivity in recent years.
Military officials have not issued an official statement regarding thepurpose or duration of the drills, though such exercises are described bydefence analysts as routine measures to maintain operational readinessalong the eastern frontier.
Local administration sources said the district authorities were informed inadvance about the training schedule, but residents complained that no priorpublic notice was given to the affected villages, leading to speculationabout possible escalation in regional tensions.
Similar large-scale aviation drills were last reported in the same sectorduring the heightened standoff following the 2019 Balakot incident,underscoring the area’s importance in Pakistan’s forward defence posture.
