ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has formally signed an agreement with Turkey for theacquisition and licensed co-production of the HAVA SOJ airborne stand-offjamming aircraft, officials confirmed on Thursday. The deal includescomplete transfer of technology and integration rights forPakistan-specific threat libraries.
The twin-engine jet, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries incooperation with Aselsan, completed its critical design review last yearand is now deep into advanced flight trials. It carries a high-powergallium nitride AESA-based electronic attack suite with digital radiofrequency memory capability.
Defence sources said the system has already demonstrated the ability todegrade long-range surveillance radars, disruptidentification-friend-or-foe chains, and corrupt beyond-visual-range datalinks employed by the Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fleet during jointexercises.
The platform will be configured with South Asian electronic order of battlesignatures, allowing it to generate tailored deceptive jamming andfalse-target scenarios against Indian ground-based and airborne sensors.Integration work will be carried out at Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra.
Once inducted, expected within the next three years, HAVA SOJ will providethe Pakistan Air Force with a dedicated long-range electronic combataircraft capable of operating far behind enemy lines while remainingoutside air-defence engagement zones.
Military analysts describe the acquisition as a strategic equaliser thatwill significantly complicate Indian air operations by denying reliablesituational awareness and forcing pilots to question the validity of radarand missile-guidance channels in contested airspace.
