US and China agree on North Korea resolution

WASHINGTON: The United States and China have agreed to draft a resolution that will expand UN sanctions against North Korea over its nuclear programme.

The entities and firms including North Korea’s Ministry of Atomic Energy Industry and its National Aerospace Development Agency (NADA) will be blacklisted who helped the North for its nuclear equipment and launch.

National Security Council spokesman said “They agreed that they will not accept North Korea as a nuclear weapons state.”

A senior council diplomat said “It’s a substantive, long, full draft. which I hope will be adopted in the coming days. There were a significant number of blockage points between the two countries. There is an agreement between two countries.”

The UN envoys claimed that the negotiation started 6 weeks ago after North Korea’s 4thnuclear test and it will bring very tough measures for North Korea.

North Korea is facing UN sanctions since 2006 when it carried out its first nuclear test.

China always opposed the unilateral sanctions on North but the situation become worst when North Korea launched a satellite with the support of long range ballistic missile technology.

The resolution draft has been sent to three other permanent members of Security Council, Britain, France and Russia.

US President Barack Obama will hold a nuclear security summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 31-April 1 in Washington.
