KABUL: A trilateral contact recently established between China,Afghanistan and Pakistan would be helpful in fighting against terrorismand ensuring peace in the region, a senior Chinese diplomat in Kabul saidon Saturday, Pajhwok news has reported.
Zhang Zhixin, Charge d’Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Kabul, said thiswhile addressing a seminar involving Afghan and Chinese experts titled,‘Afghanistan-China Bilateral Relations’ organized by the Center forStrategic and Regional Studies (CSRS) here.
Abdul Baqi Amin, head of CSRS, addressing the meeting, termed China as akind and honest neighbor of Afghanistan and said Afghanistan needed China’shelp in developing its industry, agriculture and economy.
He said China also needed Afghanistan. Calling China’s role as important inthe Afghan-lead peace talks, he said: “China also can play an importantrole reaching understandings between Russia and the US as well as betweenAfghanistan and Pakistan.”
Reassuring his country’s continued support for Afghanistan, Zhang Zhixinsaid China was trying to convert Afghanistan into an economic and politicalcenter.
“We have decided to support Afghanistan in the military area and work formilitary’s capacity building in Afghanistan so we would be able to ensurepeace in our own country and the region,” he said.
“China and Afghanistan are against terrorism, we have made efforts in thisarea and we thank Afghanistan for its support in eliminating EasternTurkistan terrorists,” he said.
He said recently a trilateral contact was established between China,Pakistan and Afghanistan that would be helpful in elimination of terrorismand ensuring peace in the region.
He said his country always supported advancement in the Afghan peaceprocess and development, business and stability in Afghanistan.
Abdul Karim Khuram, former president Hamid Karzai’s chief of staff, alsosaid Afghanistan-China relationship was important and China could helpAfghanistan in areas of agriculture, economy, business development andpeace and stability.
This relation should be positively used and the relations between the twocountries needed to be further improved, he concluded.
