BEIJING – Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang said on Monday that China hascompleted the task of reducing the armed forces by 300,000 troops.
He made the remarks while delivering his annual government work report tolawmakers during the opening meeting of the first session of the 13thNational People’s Congress (NPC), China’s national legislature, held here.
Over the past five years, China has embarked on a new stage instrengthening and energizing the armed forces, Li said.
“We have undertaken major missions involving the protection of maritimerights, countering terrorism and maintaining stability, disaster rescue andrelief, international peacekeeping, escort services in the Gulf of Aden,and humanitarian rescue,” he added.
He said that China has significantly modernized military equipment anddeepened military-civilian integration. – APP
