Pakistan – Iran to enhance cross border intelligence sharing

Islamabad – Pakistan and Iran have decided to enhance the cross borderintelligence sharing, this was decided in a meeting of the Iraniandelegation with the Pakistan Anti Narcotics Force Cimmander. A four-memberIranian delegation visited the headquarters of Pakistan’s Anti-NarcoticsForce (ANF) and discussed issues of bilateral interes

Drug situation in the region with special focus on counter-narcoticsmeasures and initiatives taken by both the countries also came underdiscussion.

Iranian delegation was headed by Brig Gen Masoud Zahedian, head ofAnti-Narcotics Police, while the Director General ANF Major Gen MusarratNawaz Malik headed the dialogue from Pakistani side.

The delegates from both sides emphasized the need to further enhancebrotherly relations of both the countries, result-oriented implementationof MoU signed in 1999, effective utilization of bilateral/regionalcounter-narcotics mechanisms, timely intelligence sharing and eliminationof impediments in coordinated and internationally-controlled deliveryoperations.

They also discussed establishment of Taftan/Mirjaveh Border Liaison Office.The delegations discussed strengthening the joint planning cell (JPC)established under the triangular initiative. Need for regular interaction,communication and sharing of the best practices were also discussed.

The visit of Iranian delegation is regarded as a milestone for bilateralcooperation on drug issues.
