US State Department urges Pakistan India to come on table

WASHINGTON: The United States has urged Pakistan and India to come on thetable for easing tensions between the two countries.

State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said that all issues can besettled down with dialogue and both the countries should begin dialogueprocess.

She also stated the Taliban in Afghanistan does not seem to be ready forpeace talks asserting that any such talks have to be Afghan-led andAfghan-owned.

We certainly saw this letter and are aware of this letter. Any peace talkswith Afghanistan have to be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned. That has long beenour policy,’ she added.

She said the Taliban, ‘unfortunately’, does not seem ready at this point tosit down and have conversations about peace talks.

‘We hope eventually they will because that is the best way to be able tohave peace in Afghanistan,’ Nauert said responding to a question on theletter released by the Taliban.

‘Ultimately, we don’t see there is a military solution to the situation inAfghanistan. Ultimately, it has to be a political situation,’ she said.’That can best be done,’ she said if the Taliban was willing to sit downand have talks.
