China officially responds to reports of holding talks with Baloch militants over CPEC security

BEIJING – China on Thursday denied holding talks with Baloch militants forthe security of development projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC) and said it was satisfied with the measures Pakistan had taken forprotection of the CPEC and the Chinese citizens.

“I am not aware of such report,” Chinese Foreign Ministry’s SpokespersonGeng Shuang said responding to a question about a media report in thatregard, during his regular press briefing here.

He said Pakistan had raised a security force for the protection ofinfrastructure development projects being completed under the CPEC andChinese citizens across the country.

“China is satisfied with the security arrangements Pakistan has taken forthe security of the CPEC and the Chinese citizens,” he added.

Financial Times, in its report published on Monday, had claimed that Chinahad been quietly holding talks with Baloch militants for more than fiveyears in an effort to protect the $60 billion worth of infrastructureprojects it is financing as part of the CPEC. – APP
