PUL-I-KHUMRI – Afghan Taliban have conditionally agreed to allowing therepair of a destroyed pylon that carries electricity to central capitalKabul link> through northernBaghlan province.
Baghlan power utility department on Sunday said electricity supply to Kabulwould be restored as tribal elders had reached an agreement with theTaliban in Baghlan over the issue.
Sultan Ahmad Azizi, provincial power utility director, told Pajhwok AfghanNews the militants destroyed the pylon with a bomb in Doshi district onFriday night.
Aziz said an agreement was reached with militants after mediation of triballeaders: “Taliban say Da Afghanistanlink> Barishna Sherkat (DABS) can send atechnical team to repair the line if electricity is also extended to theirvillages.”
The Taliban had demanded electricity for Sang Soragh, Karadak, Alikhel,Zahrabi and Kamra villages, said Azizi, who added security forces hadreached the spot and a technical team was on the way to reach there as well.
Hajji Aziz Rahman, a resident of the area, said elders met with electricitydepartment officials who promised to extend power to the mentioned villagesafter a proper survey.
On the other hand, ZabihullahShuja, Baghlan police chief, told Pajhwok thatAfghan forces had cordoned off the spot: “We are awaiting a technical teamfrom Kabul to restore the pylon and reconnect the power.”
The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
