ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday has given a blow to the SenatorIshaq Dar when he failed to appear before the Apex Court.
SC suspended former finance minister Ishaq Dar’s Senate seat’snotification, ordering that the former minister cannot be a member of theUpper House.
“Whenever we talk about his court appearance he becomes ill but looks goodon TV,” Justice Ijazul Ahsan observed.
The hearing of the case is adjourned until June. Nasir Bhutta appearedon Dar’s behalf and stated that the medical certificate and report has beensubmitted which proves his illness.
Last month, Dar contended before the Supreme Court (SC) that there was noprovision under law and Constitution barring an absconder from contestingelections.
The reply, submitted by Advocate Salman Aslam Butt, says that after theenactment of 18th Amendment, there was no prohibition under the law thatDar could not contest for Senate elections.
“Having canvassed the amendments made to Article 63 of the Constitution …there is no prohibition on a person who has been declared an absconder fromcontesting the Senate elections. Accordingly, an appeal is liable to bedismissed,” the reply reads.
