TEHRAN (FNA)- Israel tried to assassinate Iranian Professor MohsenFakhrizadeh Mahabadi described as the brain that runs Tehran’s nuclearprogram, an Israeli media outlet said in a report citing top secret intel.
Israeli Walla news site said on Tuesday evening that it had obtained theinformation from former foreign intelligence services officials who did notgive their names, Middle East Monitorlink> reported.
A number of Iranian scientists who were assassinated or assassinationattempts were made on their lives several years ago were killed or woundedby members of the Israeli Mossad who drove motorcycles and pasted adhesiveexplosives on these scientists cars, according to the site.
The site quoted the foreign intelligence officials as saying thatFakhrizadeh was on Israel’s list of targets, but did not mention thereasons for not moving forward in that scheme.
The United Nations describes Fakhrizadeh Mahabadi as a senior Ministry ofDefence and Armed Forces Logistics scientist and former head of the PhysicsResearch Center (PHRC).
Fakhrizadeh is the only person mentioned by Israeli Prime Minister BenjaminNetanyahu at his press conference two days ago, in which he revealedalleged documents claiming they prove that Tehran continued to develop itsmilitary nuclear capabilities despite signing an agreement with the majorpowers three years ago.
The Israeli premier was mocked at by experts and even world officials.
The IAEA has underlined Iran’s full compliance with the terms of thenuclear deal in 11 reports since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action(JCPOA) was signed by Iran and the six world powers.
Netanyahu is notorious for his allegations since 1999 that Iran is only 6months to one year away from developing an atomic bomb.
Israel is believed to be armed with 200 to 400 nuclear warheads and issignatory to no international treaty, including the Non-ProliferationTreaty (NPT).
