TEHRAN – Iran has announced readiness to swa Turkmenistan gas destined forPakistan, the deputy petroleum minister said.
Hamidreza Araqi made the remarks while referring to improbability ofcompleting Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline (TAPI).
‘Due to Iran’s position in the region, we can be a partner in any pipelinewhich passes through the country,’ he said, IRNA has reported.
Iran is the best route for transferring Turkmenistan gas to Pakistan, Araqisaid adding that the country can carry out this process very fast.
Iran is now swapping Turkmenistan gas bound for Azerbaijan on the basis ofwhich the country receives Turkmen gas at its border and deliver the sameamount of gas to Azerbaijan.
The Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline, also known asTrans-Afghanistan Pipeline, is a natural gas pipeline being developed bythe Galkynysh – TAPI Pipeline Company Limited with participation of theAsian Development Bank.
