Chinese engineer found dead in embassy, shifted to PIMS

ISLAMABAD – The body of a Chinese Engineer who had been dead for 12 dayswas on Monday shifted from the Chinese embassy in Islamabad to the PakistanInstitute of Medical Sciences, according to PIMS and police officials.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Islamabad Najeeb-ur-Rehman Bugvi saidthe body of the Chinese engineer identified as Yan Peng, 35, had beentransported to the hospital by an embassy official, who had said it wasfound inside the embassy.

The Chinese engineer was residing inside the embassy’s premises and workedfor a Chinese company which was closed for renovation.

The SSP added that there were no visible marks of torture on the body.

According to a police complaint filed by Chinese Counsellor Shez Zicheng,Peng worked at the mission as a construction engineer. He was given a roomat the embassy where he was currently residing as he was not involved inany construction work currently.

Security officials elaborated that the engineer’s room was not checkedearlier and officials from the embassy checked it after noticing a foulsmell. Investigators said the Chinese national appears to have died ofnatural causes as he suffered from blood pressure related problems.

Pims Spokesperson Dr Waseem Khawaja said that Pims administration hadinformed the Islamabad deputy commissioner and the Chinese embassy aboutthe body being brought to the hospital, and would conduct a postmortemexamination on the body after it received permission from the Chineseembassy.

In February, in a shocking incident of target killing a Chinese national,working at a non-CPEC related private shipping firm in Karachi, was shotdead in broad daylight in the city’s upscale neighbourhood.
