Imran Khan drops bombshell on Sharif family even before assuming charge

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has toldBritain he will retrieve wealth looted from Pakistan and stashed in the UKby corrupt Pakistani politicians, *The Telegraph*link reported.

The reference was made in relation to the Sharif family properties in theLondon for which Pakistani courts had already issued the confiscationorders.

In his first meeting with British officials after his party swept therecently-held polls, the cricketer-turned-politician stressed he wouldpursue laundered money.

The Imran-led PTI’s largely based its election campaign on denouncingpolitical leaders for looting the public and stashing money in foreigncountries.

Along with his close political ally Awami Muslim League Chairman SheikhRasheed Ahmad, Imran had petitioned the court after the Panama Papers leakagainst the Sharif family’s links to offshore companies and four Park Laneflats.

As a result of the case, the then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif was ousted bythe Supreme Court.

In a meeting with the British High Commissioner Thomas Drew, Imran said itwas his “firm resolve to bring back to the country the money laundered tothe UK”.

According to *The Telegraph*, no specific requests for investigations orseizures were made during the meeting.

However, a spokesman for the British High Commission said: “Tacklingcorruption is a UK government priority and we will continue to workconstructively with Pakistan on this issue.”

He said Britain has robust laws “for the recovery of illicit assets wherethere is evidence to do so”.
