ISLAMABAD – PM Imran Khan chaired a high level meeting of the PowerDivision.
Government has decided to expedite installation of electricity meters inthe areas where electricity is being used through direct connections (KundaSystem).
The decision was taken during a high level meeting chaired by PrimeMinister Imran Khan in Islamabad today (Friday).
Expressing concerns over the quantum of power theft, Prime Minister said itwas unacceptable that those who regularly pay their dues have to faceinconvenience of load shedding because of theft by some elements.
The Prime Minister directed Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and PowerMinister to hold a press conference to highlight the issue before thepublic and garner their support towards government’s crackdown againstpower theft.
The Secretary Power Division informed the prime minister that PowerDivision in coordination with the provincial task forces is activelycarrying forward the campaign against power theft in all the provinces.
Secretary Power Division said recently a gang has been busted in LESCO andFaisalabad region which was involved in facilitating power pilferage bytampering electricity meters through software.
The meeting also discussed the issue of low recoveries in KhyberPakhtunkhwa province.
The Prime Minister was informed that out of total losses of the province ofKhyber Pakhtunkhwa, major losses were being incurred in PESCO region.
Minister for power Omer Ayub on the occasion informed due to hectic effortsof Power division, power losses and recovery situation has startedwitnessing improvement.
