ISLAMABAD: Ministry of National Health Services Regulations andCoordination has completed initial work on various mega projects duringlast year for revamping of entire health infrastructure with estimated costof Rs14 billion.
According to an official of the ministry, the government brought aconsiderable change in health sector and the plan of four new hospitalshave been finalized which will be established in Islamabad to reduce thepatients’ burden on existing hospitals.
He said the government has planned to construct 200-bedded hospital in thefederal capital with support of the Saudi government.
He said the premises has been secured and is ready for construction tostart the project.
He added that the 200-bedded Islamabad General Hospital at Tarlai will beestablished at a total cost of Rs 2499.993 million on land measuring 13.07acres.
The project is located at the junction of Park Road and Lehtrar Road atTramari Chowk, Islamabad which will help in decreasing the load of patientson Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and Federal Government PolyClinic hospital.
The government is going to start development work on upgradation of FederalGovernment Poly Clinic (FGPC) hospital.
The official said the government has started upgradation of all basichealth units in the federal capital and added dispensaries are also beingupgraded to ensure provision of best medical care to the citizens offederal capital.
He said the government has planned to upgrade basic health unit at Tarnolto make it a trauma centre.
He added that a mother and child health center at Bhara Kahu is also beingreopened for surrounding population.
He informed that the government has also started providing medicalequipment at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) whilerecruitment of medical staff is being started at hospital to address theissue of staff deficiency and added that 250 doctors are being appointedwhile nursing staff will also be appointed soon.
He informed that 25 new dialysis machines will be provided to PIMS. Theministry has changed the out-dated manual registration system at PIMSbesides, arranging sitting places for patients, he added.
He said the government has planned to set up a nursing university with anamount of Rs 10 billion to address the increasing shortfall of nursingstaff in the hospitals.
He said the government has also started working on strengthening thenursing council while a task force has been formed for state-of-the-arttraining of nursing staff.
The government has been working to make federal capital a model healthcity. There is a plan to work on health tourism with the provision ofmodern health technology to the hospitals.
He said there is a plan to establish front health desks at all airports,dry ports and seaports entry points to keep vigilant on protecting thecountry people from carrying virus and infections from incoming passengers.
The official said the government has already imposed new taxes on tobaccoitem while the ministry has planned to suggest imposing more taxes besidestaking steps to stop illicit tobacco business.
He said the government has started revamping Drug Regulatory Authority ofPakistan (DRAP) and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to encouragemerit and improve the quality of medical colleges.
The official said that Islamabad Health Authority is being formed to makethis city a place of best healthcare delivery services.
He said for the first time a countrywide massive campaign was conductedagainst measles during which 33 million children aged between nine monthsand five years were vaccinated against measles.
The government has planned to start health insurance programme in thecountry and it will distribute 25 million health insurance cards to thepoor people.
The official said the government’s new reforms in health sector will ensureprovision of best medical services to the people.
He said reforms were under way in each department of the ministry toimprove healthcare facilities Commenting on performance of the governmentduring last year, Minister for National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kianisaid the present government has shown keen interest in healthinfrastructure development and bringing positive change in the provision ofimproved health care delivery system for the people particularly living inthe rural areas. – APP
