Pakistan in touch with Iran for release of Pakistani prisoners

Islamabad, April 27, IRNA – Pakistan is in touch with Iran about therelease of Pakistani prisoners languishing in jails for petty crimes.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said thiswhile responding to question in the National Assembly seeking details aboutsteps of the government for release of thousands of Pakistanis abroad injails allegedly involved in different crimes.

The minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan during his official visit toIran, also requested the authorities there to release Pakistani prisonersinvolved in petty cases.

He said ministries of foreign affairs and overseas Pakistanis were workingon a mechanism for release of thousands of Pakistani prisoners languishingin jails abroad.

Earlier Minister for Human Rights, Dr. Shireen Mazari who was part of PrimeMinister’s delegation to Iran in a tweet said apart from the many criticalissues raised and understanding reached during PM’s visit to Iran, the PMalso raised the issue of Pak prisoners in Iran – numbering 134 at present.

She said Prime Minister especially sought release of 32 held for pettycrimes and we should be getting good news on this very soon.
