KABUL – At least eight people were killed as the Taliban attacked theMaroof district compound in the southern province of Kandahar early onSunday morning, the provincial police chief Gen. Tadeen Khan said.
Khan said that four Humvees full of explosives were detonated by Talibansuicide bombers during the attack.
Those who were killed in the attack were employees of the provincial officeof the Independent Election Commission, the head of the commission’s officein the province Hashim Durrani said.
He said that the employees were working for the voter registration processwhich ended on Saturday.
Tadeen Khan said that security forces also suffered casualties in theattack but he did not give more details about it.
