Iran strongly responds against Saudi foreign minister allegations in OIC summit

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry's Director-General for International Peace and Security Reza Najafi dismissed Saudi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf's allegations against Tehran as baseless.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, hopes that this meeting which is being held in the blessed month of Ramadan would boost unity among Islamic Ummah and would focus on the main issue of the Islamic World, i.e. Palestine,” Najafi, who heads the Iranian delegation at the OIC meeting in Jeddah, said on Thursday.

On Thursday at a meeting of foreign ministers of the 57-nation OIC in Jeddah, the Saudi minister claimed that Iran was interfering in other countries' internal affairs, while also raising baseless allegations about Iran's involvement in the Fujairah tanker attacks.

Najafi rejected his remarks as baselsess allegations.

The Iranian foreign ministry had on Tuesday dismissed allegations by US National Security Adviser John Bolton about Tehran's involvement in attacks against four crude vessels in Fujairah port, blaming the B-team for their anti-Iran plots.

Bolton claimed during a briefing to journalists in the Emirati capital of Abu Dhabi that attacks on oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates this month were the work of "naval mines almost certainly from Iran", without offering evidence.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi rejected the allegations strongly, saying that they are the product of the "destructive plans and policies thought of by the B-team".

According to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s earlier tweets in April, the B-Team is made up by Bolton, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. "Raising such ridiculous allegation in a meeting between two members of the (B-) team who have long-term anti-Iran approaches is not something strange," he added.

Mousavi addressed Bolton and other warmongers, saying that the strategic patience, high vigilance and full defense preparedness of the Islamic Republic of Iran will prevent materialization of their ominous plots for stirring chaos in the region.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed on May 12, after initial denial, that a number of commercial ships had been targeted by "sabotage" attack near its territorial waters.

The Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates issued a statement, saying that four commercial vessels had been targeted by "sabotage operations" near its territorial waters.

Mousavi, at the time, expressed Tehran’s concern about the negative consequences of the sabotage operations, warning of plots against regional security and stability.
