KPK Govt ink MoU with British Council

PESHAWAR: (APP Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak hoped that the training program to be initiated in collaboration with British Council will enhance the capacity building of our law makers by educating to the best parliamentary practices.
This he stated while attending the signing in of MoU for the training program of the KP parliamentarians in collaboration with the British Council here at the provincial assembly today.
Speaker Provincial Assembly Asad Qaiser, Deputy Speaker Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani, Senior Provincial Ministers Shahram Tarakai, Inayatullah, Minister Muhammad Atif Khan, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Corruption Dr. Haider Ali, MPAs, British Council Acting Director, Mr. Jim Booth and others attended.
Pervez Khattak said that his government had introduced a much needed agenda for good governance in the province and this need is supported by the required legislation. Our parliamentarians needed to be exposed to the best parliamentary practices, rules of business and the process of accountability to ensure openness and transparency in the governance related processes in the province.
The Chief Minister assured that the provincial government would continue to support the training programs for our parliamentarians so that they could get the kind of knowledge and expertise required for the reforms introduced by his government. “His government has a reform agenda and these reforms are aimed at upgrading education, health and making legislation in the province”, he added.
The Chief Minister said that the training become more important when they start giving results and the knowledge gained in the training programs are transferred to the relevant and concerned sector.
The British Council Acting Director, Mr. Jim Booth explained the aims of the training program and highlighted his government support and help in different sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that the training was important that would improve parliamentary skills of the parliamentarians and could facilitate the exchanges of best practices.
Later MoU was formally signed for the training of KP parliamentarians in the Assembly Secretariat between the British Council Pakistan and provincial assembly.
It is a 18 months partnership aiming to support the provincial government to have increased skills in the parliamentary practices, good governance, and informed decision making through participatory approach in a more transparent manner.
