WASHINGTON – In a surprise, Pentagon has chosen to stay mum over mediareports of US troops withdrawal from Afghanistan.
A day after Trump announced the withdrawal of forces from Syria, mediareports from US suggest that Washington will be withdrawing 7000 of itstroops from Afghanistan.
According to New York Time, “The Trump administration is withdrawingroughly 7,000 troops from Afghanistan in the coming months”. The WallStreet Journal was the first to report the development.The Pentagon is mumon the development.
In a reply to WION’s question, Pentagon said, “have nothing to provide.”
The development can have a major impact in the region especially with Indiaplaying an important development role in the war-torn country. In recentmonths hectic talks are going on to stabilize the country–from US talkingto taliban, to Russia led Moscow talks or China led triparty talks betweenAfghanistan, Pakistan.
The Taliban recently held talks with US in Abu Dhabi. The main point ofcontention from the group has been “withdrawal of foreign troops”.
