Buzdar is an honest man, Imran Khan defends Punjab CM nominee

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has defended his party’s nomination of Sardar Usman Buzdar as Punjab chief minister after information emerged that the PTI nominee was once named in a murder case, reported Saturday.

“I want to make it clear I stand by our nominee Usman Buzdar for CM Punjab. I have done my due diligence over the past two weeks and have found him to be an honest man. He has integrity and stands by my vision and ideology of Naya Pakistan,” Khan said.

PM Imran Khan said that Buzdar is a suitable person who understands the issues of people in neglected areas.

“Usman comes from one of the most backward areas of Punjab – the tribal area of DG Khan Division. It is an area that has no electricity, water or a doctor for over 200,000 people. He understands the problems of the people of neglected areas and will be able to ensure their uplift as CM.”

“This is the first time Punjab will have a CM from such a neglected area who is acutely aware of what has to be done there. I fully back him all the way”.

A tough competition is expected between Buzdar and PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz in the election for the post of CM on Sunday.

On Friday, Imran Khan said that Buzdar is the “perfect candidate for the Punjab CM post”.

Later, reports surfaced that Buzdar was nominated in a case of six people’s murder 18 years ago. The case was settled after he paid the victim’s family blood money.

The verdict in the case was announced by an anti-terrorism court in Dera Ghazi Khan on January 1, 2000. The case against Buzdar was registered in 1998.

Buzdar, his father and brother are among other suspects mentioned in the FIR.

Also, it turns out that Buzdar is not as poor as Imran Khan thinks he is.

According to documents that Buzdar submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan along with his nomination papers, he owns houses, plots and agriculture land of worth millions of rupees.

Buzdar said the old case is unduly being highlighted. He denied paying the blood money.

“My name was included in the case by some of my political opponents, but the case was investigated and the court acquitted me,” he said.
