LAHORE – Chaurdhy Parvez Elahi from the Pakistan Muslim League-Q hassecured surprise number of votes for the elections of the Speaker PunjabAssembly.He has been elected as the speaker of the Punjab Assembly with 210 votes,Atleast 10-15 votes more than the expected.

This depicts that PML N forward bloc has emerged which voted for PervaizElahi.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had nominated Pakistan Muslim League-Quaidchief Parvez Elahi for the post of Punjab Assemblyspeaker. He wascontesting against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s nominee Chaudhry MuhammadIqbal Gujjar. Elahi received201 votes compared to 147 for Gujjar.

Parvez Elahi was administered oath by outgoing speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal.

For the slot of deputy speaker, PTI has nominatedDost Mazari who will be upagainst PML-N’sMalik Muhammad Waris Kallu.

Amid opposition disarray, Pakistan PeoplesParty said on Wednesday it willnot vote for any party’s candidate and will abstain from the voting processfor the post of speaker and deputy speaker.
