CDWP approves 14 projects worth Rs. 176 billion

ISLAMABAD (APP): The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved Thursday 10 projects worth of Rs 91.6 billion including projects relating to higher education, health, energy, infrastructure and information technology sectors.

The CDWP also approved four projects costing Rs 84.8 billion which were referred to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The CDWP met here under the chairmanship of Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal.

The meeting was also attended by senior officers of the provincial governments and ministries concerned.

Taking education as the top priority, CDWP approved two higher education projects worth Rs 3.3 billion which include expansion and up-gradation of the International Islamic University sector H-10, Islamabad with the cost worth Rs 2.561 billion and up-gradation of the University of Hazara campus at Havelian to a full-fledged University worth of Rs 819 million.

Similarly, the CDWP approved establishment and operationalising of Basic Education Community Schools (BECS) across the country with the total cost of Rs 5.3 billion.

While giving his observation on the project, Ahsan Iqbal directed the Federal Education Ministry to engage provincial education ministries in the project to avoid redundancy and also directed to decrease years from three to two years starting from 2016 to 2018.

While giving his observations on HEC projects , Ahsan Iqbal said that the universities should realise their basic responsibility to provide quality education, conduct research using modern techniques adopting credible mechanism for data collection, creating knowledge base, encouraging innovation and establishing linkages between the academia and industry to contribute toward economy and build university community relationship.

He directed authorities of Islamic International university to establish centres for Islamic study of democracy.

He also instructed to develop course on science and Islam to realize the people about diversity and glory of Islam.

In health sector CDWP approved construction of (150 bedded) state of the art hospital haveli Kahutta AJK worth of Rs 1.665 billion.

Ahsan Iqbal directed to rationalize the cost of the project and provide detailed design of the building.

In information technology sector CDWP approved citizen feedback monitoring program of cost Rs 212 million. The Federal Minister instructed to rationalize the cost of the project.

In water Resource sector CDWP approved capacity building of the office of Pakistan Commissioner for Indus water project of cost worth Rs 303 million and recommended Pehur high level canal extension district Swabi project of worth Rs 10.2 billion to ECNEC.

Punjab government development schemes worth Rs 2127 million approved

In transport and communication sector CDWP approved three projects including green line bus rapid transit system Karachi from KESC power house Chowrangi Surjani to central business district Karachi of worth Rs 24.6 billion and revised Rawalpindi Islamabad metro bus project of worth Rs 44.8 billion referred to ECNEC.

It has also approved technical assistance for Peshawar bus rapid transit project (BRT corridor -2 detail engineering design under PDA) of worth Rs 1253 million CDWP also gave concept clearance of two projects including Karachi harbor crossing of worth Rs 1 billion with FEC 785 million and establishment of new geodatic datum of Pakistan with cost Rs 1.6 billion with FEC 1.5 billion.
