Pakistan Foreign Office Speaks on UAE Deportations Amid Legal Issues

ISLAMABAD: Tensions have been mounting in Pakistan over reports of mass deportations of its nationals from the United Arab Emirates.

The Foreign Office broke its silence, clarifying the situation.

According to spokesman Tahir Andrabi, these deportations arise largely from immigration violations rather than political motives.

The UAE, home to approximately 1.8 million Pakistanis, is crucial for Pakistan’s remittance-driven economy.

Deportations have caused increasing concern among the Pakistani diaspora.

The unofficial reports have revealed that in last few months over 15,000 Pakistanis mostly belonging to one sect have been deported from UAE.

In some of the cases, Pakistanis  were even arrested and forced deportation occured and their properties and bank accounts were also sezied.

Horrible tails of deportation have occured and in many of the cases the deportation orders were given only on verification of names of the individuals belonging to Shia sect.

However, the official reports have not included these figures and just the official numbers are being shown by the government sides.

The official government reports claimed, Between January and April this year, the Consulate General in Dubai issued about 714 emergency travel documents to deportees.

Similarly, Abu Dhabi’s diplomatic mission facilitated around 780 such documents in the same period.

The deportation numbers remain stable, partly due to a royal pardon issued in the UAE.

This royal pardon led to the release and repatriation of several jailed individuals from the UAE.

Pakistani authorities are actively engaging with their Emirati counterparts on this issue.

The Pakistan Foreign Office is firm that these deportations are not politically motivated.

Andrabi stated that these cases are of a legal nature and handled in coordination with UAE authorities.

Pakistan is prioritizing the welfare of its citizens through diplomatic efforts and support systems.

Facilitation desks are being established by Pakistani missions in the UAE for better citizen outreach.

According to verified sources, over 58,000 Pakistanis have been deported from various states since 2023.

The detention of 10 Pakistani nationals for begging is among the latest incidents in the UAE.

Amid these deportations, economic concerns for Pakistan persist due to potential impacts on remittances.

Despite challenges, the Foreign Office remains focused on ensuring the rights of its nationals in the Gulf.

While some passports of imprisoned nationals have reportedly been blocked, this remains unconfirmed.

Official Pakistani perspectives emphasize legal issues as the primary cause of deportations.

Unverified claims suggest significant passport issues, yet these need formal confirmation.

The situation underscores the importance of legal compliance for expatriates living abroad.

As Pakistan continues diplomatic negotiations, the future of its nationals in the UAE remains a significant concern.

Questions linger about potential economic and social impacts should deportation numbers rise.

The resolve of Pakistani authorities to safeguard citizens’ interests in foreign lands is evident.

Expatriates face a delicate balance between legal responsibilities and regional relations.

The ongoing dialogue aims to resolve current challenges and prevent legal infractions.

Future developments will dictate the balance between expatriate concerns and diplomatic resolutions.

Pakistan remains committed to protecting its citizens while strengthening bilateral ties with the UAE.
