ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has underscored the need to highlightthe importance of Green Growth Program to ensure involvement of allsections of society towards combating environmental challenges faced by thecountry.
Chairing meeting of the Federal Cabinet in Islamabad on Thursday, the PrimeMinister said that PTI government for the first time in the history of thecountry has taken up the issue of environment which remained neglected inpast.
The Prime Minister said as a first step the government is making theFederal Capital as Model City and much-needed reforms are being introducedin health, education and other sectors in Islamabad. The model would bereplicated in other major cities of the country to overcome the challengesof urbanization, depletion of green areas, waste management system andimproving social sectors.
Adviser on Climate Change briefed the Cabinet about the progress overplantation of 150 million saplings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab duringthe current spring season. The Cabinet was also briefed about Karachi GreenMetro project and Recharge Pakistan Program.
The Cabinet approved appointment of Directors on the Board of Directors ofNational Bank of Pakistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The Cabinet approved signing and ratification of the OIC Charter Agreementsand Treaties concluded during the 46th Session of the OIC Council ofForeign Ministers held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The meeting was also briefed on the progress about identification ofstate-owned assets by all ministries/divisions.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the Punjab government to providebest available medical care facilities to former Prime Minister NawazSharif.
Briefing media on cabinet decisions in Islamabad this afternoon, Ministerfor Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the directionby Prime Minister indicates that the PTI government has no personal enmitywith any person.
Information Minister said corruption cases against Nawaz Sharif and AsifZardari were filed during the tenures of previous governments and incumbentgovernment has nothing to do with these.
He said even the appointments in NAB were made during the previousgovernment. However, the government will not pervert the course of justiceor obstruct the work of NAB to benefit any influential personality.
Chaudhry Fawad Hussain referred to the issue of renewing the license of AirBlue which came under consideration in today’s meeting and it was approvedwithout any hesitation. This shows that government does not believe inpersonal victimization.
The Minister said the consensus developed against the Indian aggression inPakistan is encouraging and the government wants to build on this whiletaking important decisions in the national interest.
He said the Cabinet decided that strategy regarding action againstproscribed organizations will be made in consultation with allparliamentary leaders.
He said all political parties are signatory to National Action Plan of 2014that includes a provision that soil of Pakistan will not be used againstany other country. He said the activities of proscribed organizations arealready banned in the country.
However, in order to ensure compliance with Financial Action Task Force,further measures are being taken.
Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the cabinet took into consideration thelandmark achievements and objectives set by the government.
He said Ministry of Law is working on various bills relating to humanrights and these will be tabled soon into parliament.
He said the cabinet approved the decisions of ECC taken in its meeting. Hesaid Asim Saeed has been appointed Managing Director Pakistan SoftwareExport Board.
The Minister said Prime Minister emphasized to devise policies to save thepoor segments of society from the inflation. In this regard, a povertyalleviation program is being finalized that will be announced soon.
