Traders to launch protests against rising inflation

The business community in Karachi is planning a sit-in protest against the escalating inflation, scheduled for September 8, as reported by ARY News on Wednesday. A consultative session involving the business community was convened, during which traders unanimously decided to initiate a protest movement to address the issue of rising prices.

Javed Shams, the President of Anjuman-e-Tajran Karachi, confirmed that all traders from Karachi would assemble in Liaquatabad on September 8, following Friday prayers, to participate in the sit-in demonstration. This event aims to draw attention to the challenges posed by inflation.

Meanwhile, a local trader named Abdur Rauf Ibrahim expressed appreciation for Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir's announcement regarding a crackdown on hoarders and smugglers. This move signifies the support for addressing economic issues.

On another front, business leader Jameel Pracha indicated that the community's upcoming protest will take place at the Governor House, emphasizing the importance of their grievances.

It is worth noting that Pakistani traders had previously staged a nationwide strike in protest of the soaring cost of living. Factors such as increased fuel and utility bills, along with the record depreciation of the rupee against the dollar, have led to widespread discontent among the public. During this protest, businesses were closed, and protesters resorted to burning tires on roads to voice their frustration.

Earlier in the day, Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar pledged to prioritize addressing the issues faced by Karachi traders. This commitment was made during a meeting with Governor Sindh, Kamran Khan Tessori. The governor provided a comprehensive briefing on administrative matters and the overall law and order situation in the province, presenting recommendations from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the city's traders regarding power tariffs.

PM Kakar expressed gratitude to the governor Sindh and directed relevant authorities to promptly act on these recommendations and present a report. This signifies a commitment to resolving the challenges faced by the Karachi business community.
